'Poldark' to Air on Australia's ABC1 in 2015

Photo via ITVS GE

Australian television network ABC1 will show the new BBC series of Poldark in 2015.

ABC has set out it's programmes for the coming year in the document 'It's All Good'  and Poldark is listed under 'Acquired Content' on page 32.  The list is in alphabetical order so gives no clue as to when it will air.

Whilst we were reliably informed that the drama would be shown in Australia next year, this is the first news we have seen in print, so it's great to have it confirmed.

Poldark is a period drama set in eighteenth century Cornwall. It stars Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark and Eleanor Tomlinson as Demelza. Poldark  will probably air in the UK on BBC1 in March 2015. It will also be shown on PBS Masterpiece Theatre in the US.

Aidan Turner Becomes Queen's University Patron

Via QUPlayers facebook

Aidan Turner has become the official patron of the drama society at Queen's University Belfast. The announcement, made on Queen's University Players  facebook page on 9 October, 2014, was followed the following day by a secret visit from Aidan himself.

The students said that Aidan was an 'absolute joy to chat to' and that he was 'over the moon to be invited'.

Aidan said, '"I'm delighted to be invited by QUP to become its patron. The significant role of university drama in the professional arts world is well established; but even if you don’t want to be the next Liam Neeson or Stephen Rea, there is no better place for students at Queens to express and develop their creativity than with the Players. I look forward to sampling some of the society’s defiance, madness and joy during the year."

Poldark Director Talks About Trailer Leak

Director William McGregor has posted his thoughts about the leak of the Poldark trailer earlier this week on Tumblr.

He explains that the trailer was meant for sales and was of different quality and content to the one the public will see.  But he also comments on how heartened he was by the good response to the trailer on Twitter.

Here is what he says:

'Oct 10 -
The Poldark trailer was leaked this week. At first I wasn’t at all happy about it, as the grade and graphics where completely wrong. The trailer was meant for sales, not for the public. So it wasn’t something that I’d had much involvement in. I’m glad the trailer has now been taken down, as I think its important that we control the first impressions we make with the show, I have a strong vision for the program and feeling a lack of control over the content that went out was terrifying. But the truth is I can now see that a lot of good has come from the trailer leaking… mostly due to the reaction on twitter. Which I must admit I’m relishing in. Its very exciting to see people buzzing about what we are up to. I can’t wait for the show to air. I’m confident its going to be golden. Another plus side is I can repost this beaut of a screen grab*, from my second day of filming down in Cornwall.

*even if i have regraded it slightly :) '

Breaking News: Poldark Title Graphic Revealed

Here is the title graphic that ITV Studios Global Entertainment are using in their adverts for Poldark. The advert features Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark and the graphic is somewhat reminiscent of the Wild West. It comes with the tagline, 'The hero returns. Everything will change'.

The advert is in the pre-Mipcom edition of World Screen. ITVSGE, the worldwide distributors of Poldark, are set to launch it at Mipcom, 13-16 October, 2014.

Poldark will air in the UK in 2015. It has already been sold to the US and, I am reliably informed, Australia. It will air in the US on PBS Masterpiece in 2015.

30 September 2014: Further News
In line with this article which says this is the ITV SGE graphic used in World Screen, producers Mammoth Screen have confirmed that the final graphic is still to come. Can't wait!

Win Aidan Turner's Bottle of Hobbit Wine

Source Middle-earth News

Here’s your chance to win Aidan Turner’s bottle of The Hobbit wine for just a 10 Euro raffle ticket!
The wine was given to Aidan by Peter Jackson when filming on The Hobbit wrapped. Aidan, who plays the dwarf Kili in the trilogy, has donated it to the Dingle International Film Festival to raise funds for their ninth festival which will take place 12 -15 March, 2015.

Tha raffle will be drawn on 12 December, 2014 to coincide with the release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Here’s some information about the prize from Dingle International Film Festival
“The Hobbit Wine is in a presentation box crafted by the world-renowned Weta Workshop (winners of five Oscars and 4 BAFTAs). Weta Workshops have worked with Peter Jackson on The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit Trilogy, The Adventures of Tintin and many more fantasy films.

“Only thirteen of these Hobbit Wines were made, one for each dwarf. One lucky person will be the only person in the world to own the wine given to KILI. The “Dorwinion Wine,” favoured by the Elves of Middle Earth, comes in a hand blown bottle with a paper label and wax seals on the front, a tag with Elvish writing is hung around the neck of the bottle. The bottle was packaged in a custom-made box, signed by the actor Aidan Turner, decorated with an image of the dragon Smaug and a Dwarven prop coin from Smaug’s hoard is attached to the sliding front box cover. This coin itself is very desirable as it was used in filming, and no screen-used props from The Hobbit have been released to the general public. The prize also includes a signed and framed photograph of Aidan as the dwarf KILI.”

Poldark Filming Moves to Wales

Filming for Poldark has moved to Wales and St Fagans National History Museum today.

@adesmith1972 on Twitter spotted the filming and went along to have a look, only to meet two of the main cast, Aidan Turner (Ross Poldark) and Luke Norris (Dr Enys).

St Fagans is an open-air museum in the grounds of St Fagans Castle near Cardiff. Historical buildings have been re-built on the site. Filming today appears to have been of the interior of some farmhouses and cottages.

Here are some of the cottages and farmhouses, furnished in 18th century style, that may have been used.
