  1. In the later Poldark novels Winston Graham introduces several wealthy real people of the late 18thC. One mentioned in relation to George Warleggan is Sir Christopher Hawkins. His house, Trewithen, (almost an anagram of Trenwith,) is near Truro and still lived in by descendants of the Hawkins family. It is a beautiful 18thC gentleman's house, with a lovely garden full of specimen trees including magnolias. From March to the end of June you can visit the house on Monday and Tuesday afternoons by guided tour, the garden is also open to visitors. The interior is remarkably preserved. There is a website. The house has not been used for filming Poldark but has been used for other filming and is a lovely example of the period. It doesn't take much imagining to see the characters here.

    2. I love it too and I only live next door in Devon!!
If you only ever visit one place in the UK make it Cornwall, it's so special. My favourite places are Towanroath Mine at St Agnes which is stimply stunning and Crowns Mines at Botallack near Land's End, oh and Cape Cornwall. There is no other scenery like it.

  6. Cornwall has been a major source of locations for period filming. Three versions of Poldark (Robin Ellis in 1975-77, John Bowe in 1996 and Aiden Turner in 2014-15), The Onedin Line (1972-79), The Voyage of Charles Darwin (1978), Rebecca (1940 & 1979), Penmarric (1979), My Cousin Rachel (1983), Jamaica Inn (1939, 1983 & 1985), Frenchman's Creek (1985), Nancherrow (1999), Edwardian Farm (2010), Knights of the Round Table (1953), Dracula (1979), Moll Flanders (1996) and many more. There are lists at http://www.visiting-cornwall.co.uk/locations.html (films) and http://www.visiting-cornwall.co.uk/tv_locations.html (television) of filming in Cornwall since 1899.

  7. I'm disappointed to learn that series 3 is leaving Cornwall for filming. As a daughter of a Cornishman it's difficult to accept that some location filming is not in Cornwall! But to go to a completely different part of the world in my humble opinion is not what Winston Graham would have envisaged or wanted. They dealt with bad weather in the 1780's and Poldark should reflect that. I hope they reconsider as part of the reason for watching is because of Cornwall and the beautiful scenery and for me New Zealand will not come close!!!

  8. Tell me it isn't true that series 3 won't be filmed in Cornwall??????? Part of the draw to Poldark, is the film location for me. As a 5 th gen descendant from Wales, and the likelihood of never able to travel there, this was the draw for me. What a shame ....

  13. I am an avid Poldark fan from Maryland, USA and I just discovered this blog. Great info and pictures! I have read all 12 novels and seen the original series with Robin Ellis and I think this new version is terrific. When I visited Cornwall in Oct 2012 we stayed in St. Ives, which is beautiful, and we visited Port Isaac where Doc Martin is filmed, and Truro. I would love to go back and find some of the sites where Poldark was filmed. And I agree that it is heresy to film any Poldark in New Zealand!

  14. es una serie que me tiene atrapada tanto el relato como en la filmación de loslugares.Los interpretes son magnificos .Nos hacen vivir las situaciones como que estuvieramos an el lugar..
Trataré de leer el libro.. siempre la lectura supera el film.
