Viewing Figures for 'Poldark' S4
The finale of Poldark series four was certainly a dramatic one and one that kept us glued to our TVs! 4.4 million watched it on the night (it won the 9pm slot), with a further million of us catching up during the week, according to Barb's seven day consolidated figures which do not include BBC iplayer. At 5.4 million it was BBC One's third most popular programme for the week 23-29 July, after Eastenders (5.8m) and Antiques Roadshow (5.7m).
Barb's seven day consolidated figures show the premiere of Poldark series four garnered an audience of six million and was BBC One's top show that week. Episode two was the most popular episode of the series (6.1m) and episode four the least watched (4.9m). On average, 5.6m people watched each episode, compared to 6.1m for series three and 7.6m for series one. BBC iplayer figures will probably be available in the Autumn.
To give some context to the months of June and July in the UK, the football World Cup took place during the weeks Poldark episodes two to six aired (though games were generally not being played when the show was on TV). The UK also experienced a heatwave during this period.
Poldark in Australia
Poldark series four aired in Australia just six days after the UK on ABC. Previous series had been shown on a Sunday evening but, for series four, the show was moved to Saturdays at 8.15 pm. Episode 8 proved the most popular with 409K watching it that day in the five city metro area and episode 7 the least with 332K, it's smallest audience ever.

The seven day consolidated figures from Barb (which do not include BBC iPlayer) show episode nine was the second most popular programme on BBC One in the week of 31 July to 6 August, with Eastenders at 6.3m pipping it to the top slot.
Scriptwriter Debbie Horsfield told RadioTimes.com: “I think it has held its own over the summer.
“The thing about the English weather is it’s so terrible and it’s still raining outside anyway so people stay in to watch TV. Everyone’s pleased with the viewing figures and so many people are watching."
Poldark S3 consistently won the overnights 9pm slot grabbing up to 25% of viewers on Sunday nights.
The premiere was the most watched episode of the series with an audience of 6.7 m. At 5.9m episode 4 was the least watched. Over the whole series Poldark averaged an audience of 6.1m. This compares to 7.6m for S1 and 6.4m for S2 (7 day consolidated figures).

Well done Poldark!

'Poldark' Series Finale Viewing Figures
Congratulations Poldark!
It's one thing to start a TV series with great audience numbers but quite another to end on such a high, yet this is just what Poldark has done!
Last week the final episode of Series 2 brought in the best overnight viewing figures of the season with 5.8 million of us tuning in, that's a 26% share of the TV watching audience and the sort of figures we were seeing for S1 (OvernightsTV). This has now been followed up with a seven day consolidated figure from Barb for episode 10 of 6.9 million* - again, back up to the levels of S1. Poldark was the BBC's eighth most popular programme of the week and it's best performing drama. Episode 9 also did well with 6.7 million, in line with the series 2 premiere on 4 September 2016.
The experts may mull over how much all this is due to the Victoria effect. I just want to say, well done Poldark!

Viewing Figures for 'Poldark' S2
Well done Poldark!
Last night Poldark Series 2 recorded it's highest number of viewers so far with 5.15 million (23.5% share) watching Episode 4 according to Overnights.tv., just beating the S2 premiere which had 5.1 m (22.7%) and well up on the previous week of 4.7m.
The 7 day consolidated figures for Poldark S2 for Episodes 1, 2 and 3 give 6.7m, 6.3m and 6.2m viewers per episode respectively. While the numbers are down on Series 1, which had between 8.7m (Episode 1) and 6.8m (Episode 7) viewers, the show still performs strongly.
Much has been made of Poldark going head to head with Victoria but the TV ratings show that the episodes of Victoria that have clashed with the first three episodes of Poldark have 7.75m, 7.6m and 7.65m viewers if ITV +1 is included and 6.m, 5.8m and 5.8m if it is not. So Victoria comes out top with one set of figures and Poldark with the other.
The 7 day consolidated figures are produced by BARB; the data gives the number of people watching a programme on the day plus those who recorded it and played it back within a seven day period. The figures do not include iplayer: these should be available from the BBC at a later date.
Poldark S2 premiered in Australia yesterday with 479,000 viewers watching it in the five city metro area according to TV Tonight, putting it at number 10 in the Top 10 rankings. Series 1 premiered to 649,000 people last year making it ninth in the rankings.

'Poldark' Popular on iPlayer in April
![]() |
Photo: Mike Alsford |
Poldark is at No.2 and 3 in the top 20 requested programmes on iplayer for April 2015!
The BBC figures show that episode 5 and 6 got 1,449,000 and 1,068,000 requests respectively. The only show to get more was Peter Kay's Car Share with 1,495,000. Poldark's episode 7 was also in the top 20 at number 13 with 940,000 requests.
The figures for episode 5 of Poldark on iplayer beat those for episode 1 (1,192,000) although the BBC did not capture all the data in March. This may be accounted for by episode 5 being shown on Easter Sunday, as the consolidated viewing figures of 6.95m for the episode, showed a drop in viewing compared to the episodes in the weeks before and after. As one would expect, people who missed the drama on the Sunday, caught up on iplayer.
Here is the BBC iplayer Top 20. Please also see the following notes:
